Try a Romantic Boating Trip on the Norfolk Broads

The Norfolk Broads are a top pick for a romantic place to visit.

You can happily spend a few nights or longer exploring 126 miles of lock-free navigable waterways, visiting Broadside villages, pubs, churches and windmills enroute.

Norfolk has a long-standing connection to Valentine’s Day, deeply rooted in local folklore. The legend of Jack Valentine tells of a mysterious figure who would leave gifts and cards on doorsteps on Valentine’s Eve –  only to sometimes snatch them away just as quickly!

Norfolk has something for all romantics – fantastic walks, wildlife, gardens and more churches than any other county. Stately homes, castles and museums. For the more active romantics there are wonderful cycle routes, canoeing and paddleboarding. The Broads National Park is full of great riverside pubs and eateries too. Norwich has everything you could want from a city of stories – over 1,500 historic buildings including a Norman cathedral and castle and independent shopping that is second to none.

A great romantic way to explore Norfolk is on a Norfolk Broads boating holiday. The boat itself provides a secluded space and you can access quiet mooring places where you can dine on board in the open air. Boats can be hired for 3+ nights and we have a boat for all budgets. Boats have all the mod cons you need and some even have four poster beds! The great thing is that anyone can drive a boat (full tuition is given) and it is all lock free!

Exploring this way gives access to some great wildlife including bitterns, otters and kingfishers as well as some of Britain’s largest and rarest butterflies. Ranworth and Hickling Broads are both havens for wildlife lovers. And of course, you are bound to see two of the most romantic of animals, barn owls and swans. These animals mate for life!

Waterside inns and peaceful country pubs offer everything from fine dining to fish and chip meals and many use the finest fresh and local Norfolk produce. Somerleyton Hall is a wonderful venue with the hall and gardens to explore and the Duke’s Head pub and restaurant on its doorstep. Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden is another secluded hideaway just waiting to be explored.

All in all this boating break can definitely bring together those passing ships (pardon the pun!) among us, offering a relaxing adventure for couples of all ages and lifestyles.
