The Easter holidays are the perfect time to enjoy a family break boating. With two bank holidays it is easier to have a long weekend or use less annual leave to have a week away. If Norfolk Broads boat hire is on your to do list, breaks at this time of year are also one of our cheaper date bands (band B) making this time of year even more attractive. Not only this, but some have predicted a heatwave for Easter – of course, this cannot be guaranteed! However, all boats are heated so whatever the weather the Broads is still a great place to visit and travelling by boat makes it even more of an adventure.
Boating over Easter
So what is there for a family to do on board? I am sure many children would bring their tablet to play games but a lot of people like to go back to traditional games such as card and board games. There is something about sitting around the table in the saloon area – especially if your boat has a canopy and the weather is good. Spotting wildlife together is great fun – some ideas of animals to spot can be seen in our Kid’s Guide here.
For a day out there are some great adventures to be had. Visit the treetop adventure park of BeWILDerwood near Hoveton or discover the undersea world at the Sea Life Centre in Great Yarmouth. For those who are thrill seekers you can visit Pleasurewood Hills theme park in Lowestoft. Other family attractions include Pettitts Animal Adventure Park in Reedham and Wroxham Barns with its junior farm and fun fair rides.
Fishing is another popular boating pastime and a Broads holiday is many people’s first experience of fishing. Ensure you are not fishing in the closed season (March 15th-June 15th inclusive) and also that you have the correct licence and that you are in an area where fishing is permitted. Cycling can also be enjoyed on your Broads holiday and you can bring your own bikes on certain boats or you can hire them from one of the many cycle hire shops around the Broads.
You can also hire a rowing or sailing dinghy (subject to charge and availability) to take along with you on your Broads adventure. There are some secluded areas you can reach this way, which is great fun! For more ideas on what you can do on your Broads holiday take a look at our Welcome Aboard Guide here.
