There’s a little less than four weeks left of the pupping season at Blakeney Point and the Grey Seal has had a record breaking birthing year! Over 2,500 births have been recorded this season by the Norfolk Coast National Trust on their blog as of 11th December. Previously, the record was 2,462 during the 2014-15 season – plus there are still more pups to come in the current season! The Norfolk Coast National Trust writes on their blog that there was an average of 20 pups being born a day between 6th and 9th of December.
Record-Breaking 2017 Birth Season Enjoyed by Grey Seals at Blakeney Point in Norfolk
Blakeney Point, the oldest nature reserve in Norfolk, was given to the National Trust in the early 1910s after public appeal. Recognised and protected in the modern day by a raft of national and international designations, visitors to the reserve can visit the point to see the seals.
