Redwings Horse Sanctuary has two locations, one in Aylsham and one in Caldecott. As Coltishall is now the limit of navigation for motorised craft, Aylsham can be reached either by a 15-minute taxi journey from Coltishall, or from the Bure Valley Railway by taking one of their trains from Wroxham to Aylsham – two days out in one! Coltishall is almost a 6 hours’ cruise from Stalham and will require you to go under Wroxham bridge. Wroxham is a 4 ¼ cruise from our Stalham marina.
Redwings Horse Sanctuary
Redwings Horse Sanctuary was established in 1984 in Norfolk, and dedicates itself to rescuing and providing care for horses, ponies, donkeys and mules. Now with bases across the country, the sanctuary still has its headquarters and 2 locations in Norfolk where it cares for its rescued horses and donkeys and educates the public on the welfare of the animals.
Home to a mixed bag of horses, ponies, mules, and donkeys, Redwings’ Aylsham location has a schedule of activities during school holidays, including quiz trails, colouring crafts, and more! There is also play area, gift shop, and a Nosebag Café. There are disabled parking spaces and toilet facilities, as well as free parking, a picnic area, and dogs on leads are welcome.
Redwings’ largest visitor centre is their location at Caldecott. With nearly 120 animals, there’s plenty of ponies, horses, mules, and donkeys to meet, groom and cuddle. The site has disabled parking and toilet facilities, free parking, a gift shop, picnic area, as well as their Nosebag Café. Dogs on leads are also welcome at the site.
