Africa Alive!
Africa Alive!, just a 15-minute taxi journey from Lowestoft town centre, is a walking safari set across 100 acres of Suffolk’s spectacular countryside. The African themed park is part of vital work to animal care and welfare, education, and conservation. A registered charity, the park aims to help wildlife conservation across the world whilst offering visitors the opportunity to get up close with the animals it helps. With 5 species from Africa’s savannah and indoor and outdoor adventure play areas, as well as restaurants, this is definitely a day trip for the family!
Ness Point
The most Easterly place in the UK, Ness Point sits proudly on the Lowestoft coastline. Having been known to be the most Easterly point in the UK since the early 19th century, Ness Point features a Euroscope. The Euroscope is a novelty for visitors to the most Easterly point in the UK, as it features a circle of plaques showing mileages to different points in the UK and Europe, including it’s sister-sites the most Westerly, most Southerly, and most Northerly parts of the UK.
Pleasurewood Hills
Another great day trip, Pleasurewood Hills is a 50-acre coastal parkland just a short 10-minute taxi ride from Lowestoft town centre. With all the features of a thrilling theme park, Pleasurewood Hills has the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in the East of England, Wipeout, and a classic log fume ride called Timber Falls. They also have daily Sea Lion shows and Playful Parrot shows. There are also things for the little ones to do in the Kiddie Zone, and the park also features a classic carousel upon entrance and an exciting Chairlift ride across 4 miles of the park, including over their large lake.
Richardson’s Family Entertainment Centre, Lowestoft
As well as boating, Richardson’s also owns and operates Richardson’s Family Entertainment Centre in Lowestoft, just off the high street. With glow bowling, family amusement arcade, and a value for money Galley Diner & Restaurant and Cityscape Bar, it’s the perfect place to spend the day! Sparrow’s Nest and Gardens
In the North Denes area of Lowestoft, near the seaside, is the Sparrow’s Nest and Gardens. Once part of a private estate, the gardens are now owned by the council (since 1890!) and now house a tea room in its midst, as well as the Pavilion Theatre. The Pavilion Theatre was actually commandeered by the Royal Navy in 1939 as the head-quarters for HMS Europa – as a result, the park now has the Royal Naval Patrol Service Association museum and a memorial to sailors lost at sea, bearing the names of 2385 sailors. There is also the Lowestfot and East Suffolk Maritime Society’s Maritime Museum. Plenty to see and do!
